New scholarship available for students living in sugarbeet states

A new $5,000 scholarship is available to students who live in states that grow sugarbeets. Syngenta is sponsoring the inaugural Syngenta Sugarbeet Scholarship program for students living in California, Colorado, Idaho, Michigan, Minnesota, Montana, Nebraska, North Dakota, Oregon, Washington or Wyoming. The scholarship is open to high school seniors and college students (excluding seniors) interested in pursuing a career in agriculture. Funds will be available in time for fall tuition 2010. Applications are being accepted from now until mid-June.

Applications must include agriculture involvement, a major or intended major, and an essay that does not exceed 350 words explaining how the sugarbeet industry an maximize its resources to meet the growing demand for food, feed and fuel. When writing their essay, applicants should consider land use, water optimization, technology transfer, and biodiversity

The winner will be announced in August and the winning applicant will be invited to attend the 2011 American Sugarbeet Growers Association meeting.
